Billy Bush on award shows, family and fun
Posted by Lorrie LynchYesterday, as I was writing and editing my report on the Golden Globe awards, I was reminded that I never shared any details from my interview with Access Hollywood's Billy Bush last week. And I meant to, because he is a riot.
In fact, Billy was once described by The New York Times as "capable of conjuring instant bonhomie" and it's so true. I wasn't on the phone with him more than two minutes before we were cracking wise like old friends at a high school reunion. When I reminded him of the Times' description, he agreed that he may well be "bonhomic" and capable of conjuring instant bonhomie — emphasis on the instant. I allowed as how it would be a fitting quote for a tombstone, but he said it would have to be past tense as in: "He conjured instant bonhomie."
We talked wardrobe and he joked that his Access partner Nancy O'Dell wears more complex "get-ups" than his and therefore might be more vulnerable to wardrobe malfunctions. Just the fact that he referred to any woman's carefully planned red-carpet wear as a "get-up" cracked me up.
Billy has three daughters, ages 3, 7 and 9, who are reaping the High School Musical 2 and Hannah Montana perks of his job. But he says he finally had to cut them off. "They are in hiatus. If Miley Cyrus has a big thing we're not going. It's too much. And I don't need to be following Miley Cyrus around saying, 'Hi, it's me again with my daughters.' "
