2008 Fall TV schedule is uninspired
Posted by Lorrie Lynch
The week of sneak peeks at next fall's network TV schedules is over and the bottom line is same old, same old. That doesn't mean there are no new, or even possibly interesting shows. It's just that ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox and The CW are sticking to their tried and true formulas. There will be no Viva Laughlin-like risk-taking (hey, at least they tried); there will be no women-only crime solving or vampire drama (Women's Murder Club and Moonlight are cancelled); there will be a new Jerry Bruckheimer show (Eleventh Hour on CBS, pictured at right.) Read below for more news on CBS and Fox shows.
Speaking of Bruckheimer, who produces all the CSI shows as well as Cold Case and Without a Trace,
he told us, “I have always been fascinated by science-based projects. The
show is really going to explore some complex theories and go into some
areas that I haven't been able to do with other projects.” Bruckheimer
wasn't the only name CBS had on hand. Australian actor Simon Baker (at left), who will star in the new drama The Mentalist, Grey's Anatomy guest star Elizabeth Reaser, who will star in The Ex List, Rufus Sewell, who will star in Bruckheimer's show, and newcomer Kyle Bornheimer,
who stars in the comedy The Worst Week, were there for the presentation
at Carnegie Hall and the afterparty at NYC tavern Rosie O'Grady's.
Fox brought out most of its talent, minus House himself, Hugh Laurie, to its presentations Thursday. Even 24 star Kiefer Sutherland was
there -- reminding us that the action-adventure show actually is coming
back. In fact, he said he'll leave in a few weeks for South
Africa to film a much-talked about Day 7 prequel which will air on Nov.
23. Wayne Brady, Joshua Jackson, Emily Deschanel, Eliza Dushku and
many others all came out to showcase the new season. Yet, with all that
star power Fox still only announced two new shows for the fall, holding
many of its new pilots, like Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse starring Eliza Dushku, until January. Among the new shows, J.J. Abrams’ Fringe
seemed to capture the most attention with its twisted plot and enticing
teaser “What if science could exceed our imagination? What if the
unimaginable could become reality?” Abrams was there for the
presentation and was seen clapping along with the crowd after the short
clip. You can watch the clip below.
