Cybill Shepherd on 'Psych' and her exercise bike

Cybill_shepherd Speaking of Psych, Cybill Shepherd (at right) joins the cast for at least four episodes this season playing James Roday's mother, Corbin Bernsen's ex. Shepherd is breathless as she talks to our L.A. writer Bart Mills -- while doing a phone interview for our Who's News page, she’s putting in time on her stationary bike. She's always been a woman who wastes not a minute of time. I interviewed her years ago within months of her having twins Ariel and Zach. I arrived to meet her in her hotel room here in Washington, D.C., and was ushered into the bedroom, where Cybill had just been awakened from a needed nap. No makeup, suffering from a bad case of bed head, she stayed under the covers while I sat in a chair at the end of the bed. No vanity, no holds barred.

But back to the current interview. Cybill tells Bart she'll return in the next season of The L Word.  She gasps (still on the bike), “The bad news is that next season is the last season. The good news is that I’ll do two of the last eight episodes. And more good news is that my daughter Clementine (Ford) will be in two episodes, too, playing my daughter again. It’ll be thrilling to work with her again because she’s really good and it’s really brought us together.” Read more about Cybill's upcoming projects below.

Shepherd has a role in an episode of Samantha Who that will air in the fall. “I got to dance in that episode,” she says.  “I did the foxtrot with Mark Ballas.” Scotching the internet rumor that she might appear on Dancing with the Stars, she says, “I won’t be doing that show.  Not that I don’t love to dance. I’m just not a professional.” In 1975’s At Long Last Love, she danced, but critics didn’t exactly rave.

Her At Long Last Love director and lover at the time, Peter Bogdanovich, is linked with her professionally again in a theater project that he plans to direct, Masks Outrageous. This is a posthumous work by Tennessee Williams that Gore Vidal is re-working. “It’s supposed to go into rehearsal in September for a New York opening,” Shepherd says. “I’ll play one of the richest women in the world who’s had a lot of work done on her face.  She drinks constantly and gobbles Ritalin to sober up.  She’s nearly blind and loses her glasses.  It’s a thrilling, surrealistic, disturbing piece.”

She said she was due to start filming Another Harvest Moon in Pennsylvania this week. “I play the daughter of a nursing home patient played by Ernest Borgnine, who is involved with three women at the home.  I’m a very different character from ones I usually play, a control freak.”

And she has recently completed Barry Munday, an independent film. “It’s a crazy comedy starring Patrick Wilson.  I play Malcolm MacDowell’s wife.  They made it for just $3 million,” she marvels. “It was like doing The Last Picture Show — everyone was sitting around and telling stories.  I’m loving the independent feature world!”

I just wish you'd get your own series again, but I can see where that would be a real grind.... Love ya!!!

Cybill
I am certain it must have been said to you many times, but you are a true steel magnolia. I am one year youger than you and also from the south. The Cybill show reminded me so much of the BBC production of "Absolutely Fabulous", which was also one of my all time favorites. I knew that you and I had more in common than being southern and our blonde hair, I see that you are also an Aquarian. My Bday is Feb 12, 1952. Please keep something airing on TV. When I see you, I feel as though I am watching a high school friend.

It is interesting that I watched Cybil when I was young and now my 17-year-old daughters record her re-runs every day to watch. Her and her co actor Marianne on the show, they love and Zowie. It is time for her to have a show of her own again. She is the best actress, and she is a Real person, down to earth, not a fake phoney at all. More people should be like her that have real talent such as she does. Thanks for entertaining us Cybill

Dear Ms. Shepherd,
Hi. Not sure if you read letters posted to a fan site like this or not but in case you do I just wanted to tell you that I admire you and think you are a beautiful woman.
I just happened to notice that your birthday was 10 years and 1 day different from mine. As your birthday is Feb 18, 1950 mine is Feb 17, 1960. Well any case I just found that to be fun to know. I hope all goes well with you and just wanted to say hi.

Moonlighting is one of my vague and earliest memory of Ms. Shepherd. She's truly gorgeous that I never get tire of scanning my mother's old magazines or watching her shows.

She has been my perfect epitome of a strong, sophisticated, beautiful lady achiever.

I'm just so happy to see her once again on tv, thus, reliving my fascination over Corrine Jeffries.

Her smile is still splendid as ever...

You know Cybill would find the last two comment offensive! Her goal in life is to prove woman are much MORE than looks. She is smart, sazzy, and I love her attitude toward life. I grew up on Moonlighting and have followed her career ever since. I just love her.

Well, just to let you know, Cybill sat next to me in High School English Class at East High School, Memphis, I have not seen her since graduation, but have enjoyed here in "The Last Picture Show" and "Moonlighting" especially. She comes to the Reunions and I miss her every time, Darn. She is a really talanted actor and is funny. Comedy is the most difficult to pull off, she is best in funny shows. I hope to see her in another series soon.
