Tony Shalhoub on Monk's 100th episode

Tony_shalhoub2 I once met Monk star Tony Shalhoub (at left) on the red carpet at the Golden Globes. He was there with his wife, Brooke Adams, and she stepped back to let him talk to the press and revel in his moment. Last week, Kathy got the chance to talk with the Emmy and Golden Globe winner, who celebrates 100 episodes of Monk this fall. Here's Kathy's report.

Shalhoub says when he first signed on to the show, 100 episodes was something of a pipe dream, but now that the USA Network hit is about to cross that major TV milestone, he's happy to be there -- even if playing the obsessive-compulsive title character has gotten into his head a little. "I think I had low levels of those kinds of quirks, as a lot of people really do, but it's definitely grown over time," Shalhoub said. "I'm not really the kind of actor who brings my work home with me so much, normally, but I sort of feel infected by this character in a way. I think about things that I normally wouldn't otherwise."

Shalhoub also revealed the possible plot line for that 100th episode: "The writers have, I think, a really, really clever idea," he said. "They want to make the plot of the episode 'Monk's 100th case.' And there's a Dateline-type reporter following Monk on his investigation, sort of a Stone Phillips kind of guy. During this Dateline thing, it will be interspersed with people from past episodes, people who have come across Monk and they'll talk about him. People like Ambrose, Monk's smarter, more troubled brother, played by John Turturro. And different guest stars that we've had over the past six seasons will make small cameos."

And speaking of guest stars, this season they've already worked with Brad Garrett and Robert Loggia, and Shalhoub said they'd have several more.

I hope Monk continues for many years. If it doesn't, I may not be able to function without it. I may withdraw into myself, start counting posts as I pass them, and become a germaphobic neat freak (haha)

Monk ranks as one of my all-time favorite shows. The time between seasons seems an eternity. Each season, the actors and writers surpass the previous season. How often can you say that about anything these days? Let's aim for 500 episodes!

MONK is one of the few new shows that merits watching.

Let's STOP all this Reality Crap!

Gosh, I hope this means more Monk... Let's hope there more and more seasons to come! Maybe a 200th episode?
