Comic-Con is coming -- and we'll be there

Comic_con_logo_2 For the first time ever, USA WEEKEND is going to Comic-Con! That’s right, starting Wednesday associate editor Brian Truitt will be live blogging from the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con International and covering one of the world’s largest pop-culture extravaganzas as your official on-site geek. Read on below to find out what he'll be up to and how you can stay updated on all the comic-y goodness:

"It is true: The geek shall inherit the earth. Just look at this week’s top movies. The Dark Knight, the latest Batman adventure, made history by taking in $158.4 million last weekend -- the biggest opening ever! Two of the other top 10 movies out now  -- Hellboy II: The Golden Army and Wanted --  are also based on comic books. And a fourth, Hancock, may not be a comic but it features a superhero, albeit one crankier than the Caped Crusader.

But more than just comic book fans nerd out at Comic-Con. Started in the '70s in a San Diego basement, the convention is now a place where studios, publishers and other media bring their wares to show a massive audience that comes from all over the world to see the hottest in movies, TV shows, video games and books. If you want to know what will be cool later this year and the next, you’ll see it here.

Tomorrow, I will preview some of what I’m looking forward to at Comic-Con, which starts with a preview night on Wednesday and begins its full-scale assault on Thursday. But I also want to know what you guys want me to check out as well. Need to know what will happen on Heroes or Lost next season, or are you dying to know the scoop on the new Twilight movie based on Stephenie Meyer’s crazy-popular vampire books? Let me know in the comments below and follow me on site –- I’ll be Twittering from the San Diego Convention Center (which you
can follow via our handy-dandy widget on the right side of this web page) so I can give you the latest news and up-to-the-minute gossip on everything going on. And stay tuned as we'll have all sorts of interviews and other exclusives for you as well. For all the panels and events, check out the whole schedule at www.comic-con.org."

Hello Brian - Thanks for all the cool blogs and pictures. In your travels through the halls, have you heard any buzz regarding LOST?

Hi Brian. I want to see a snapshot of you, next to a vampire or Jabba the Hut -- maybe both at the same time! Just a suggestion.

Yes, I will have my digital camera. And oh yes, there will be pictures of costumes.

Brian - Are you gonna have a camera phone with you to take pix of all the weird costumes?

I'm a total comic nut and am thrilled that you guys are going to be covering this event! I look forward to hearing about what's happening at Comic-Con. Rock on superheros!

Just read you Who's News in the USA weekend magazine. The question as to "Who has sold the most records worldwide & top selling female artist", and your answers were Streisand and Madonna. This information is INCORRECT.

Singer PATTI PAGE sold over 100 MILLION records on the Mercury, Columbia, Plantation and other record labels. This was acknowledged at the COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS several years back. Patti's recording of "THE TENNESSEE WALTZ" IS THE BIGGEST SELLING SINGLE BY ANY FEMALE ARTIST IN HISTORY, selling well over 10 million copies. Seems like older artists are completely ignored. Miss Page is still performing concerts at the age of 81, and has a brand new country CD on the CURB label to be released in August.

The Patti Page Appreciation Society would like a retraction in the USA Weekend in the near future.
