Edie Falco's new Showtime comedy
Posted by Lorrie Lynch
It's back to television for Edie Falco (at right) who won three Emmys and six nominations as mob wife Carmela Soprano in The Sopranos. Earlier this year Falco had a superb, and now Emmy-nominated, turn as Alec Baldwin's love on 30 Rock, and she's signed on to star in her own dark comedy. Showtime announced this week that Falco will play the title character in Nurse Jackie, about a New York City emergency room nurse with an occasional hankering for painkillers. No specific date yet, just a 2009 premiere. Falco will be joined by a fellow Soprano, Paul Schulze (he played Father Phil) who reportedly plays her boyfriend. But it's not all rosy (in case you weren't tipped off by the drug problem): Jackie also has a very close — maybe too close? — working relationship with one of the hospital's doctors, played by Peter Facinelli (Jennie Garth's real-life husband).
