Anderson Cooper photos and more - Exclusive!
Posted by Lorrie LynchWe already gave you the inside scoop last month on the photo shoot for USA WEEKEND's cover story with Anderson Cooper and gave you a behind-the-scenes look at how the interview went down. The cover story is online and in homes now, but we've got even more to offer you: Exclusive photos taken by our deputy photo editor Sarah Claxton during our photo shoot with Cooper. Plus, you can click on read more below for a few fun tidbits that didn't make it into the final story, including what Cooper had to say about his favorite place in the world and if he'd consider taking over the helm at Meet the Press.
USA WEEKEND: Would the Meet the Press moderator job interest you at all?
Anderson Cooper: I wouldn't even be considered for that job. I like doing a variety
of things. I like being able to travel. I like being able to go to
stories. So any show limited to one kind of thing, I don't think I
would be interested in.
USAW: In your book, you describe your late brother Carter, who
committed suicide, as devastated by a breakup. You write: “I had never
broken up with someone I was in love with, and I didn't appreciate the
pain of such a loss.” Do you now?
AC: Well, I'm certainly older than I was when he died. I was 20. So,
yeah, everyone has experienced loss or rejection and all of that.
USAW: After all your travels where is the most beautiful place in the world?
AC: Along the banks of Lake Kivu in western Congo. It's stunningly
beautiful right at dusk. The hills are incredibly green and verdant,
and on the lake there are always just a few fishermen in canoes. I
don't think the lake is all that healthy ecologically, but there is
just a vibrant richness to the colors. And it's in this country where
the struggle for life is very real. Yet, despite all that's happened
around it, this amazing spot exists. In matters of a great city, it's
hard to beat Rio de Janeiro.
USAW: What's your favorite newspaper?
AC: Well, I grew up reading The New York Times. And the Wall Street
Journal I like a lot. I think it's a fantastic newspaper and getting
better. I'm not interested in what some editorial board thinks — just
the same as I'm not very interested in what some television anchor
thinks of a political subject. I'm interested in information and facts,
and I think all of us are smart enough to make up our own minds.

Charming, Smart, Witty & Sexy! I could go on and on. Humm... He is brilliant!!!
I'm curious as to what he does for fun, relaxation. He's a very intelligent person and I really enjoy listening to him speak.
I think of AC as being a down to earth person and thats why he's so loved, However I was alittle taken back by his commment about regreating that he showed he was emtional, it was because of him being emotional that I was attractive to him and I hope he maintains being humble because that's what defines his charector the best. I have wanted to find out about how to get a clip of that program just to be able to view it again,AC don't allow yourself to ever regret showing emotions, Be proud that you could demenstrate a normal healthy human side of being a man. I wish there were more men and reporters like you.Don't ever let your heart become hardened and incensitive due to any persecution or because of extensive traveling and being over booked for any job. No Job, Title,Rewards, or Money is worth it, Don't take your job so serious, Relax, enjoy yourself on the job and off. And if you feel like crying then cry, cry, cry, I'll wipe your tears. I'll even buy the tissue for you.

Anderson-you say you have mild dyslexia--it is amazing that you can get up in front of people and SPEAK. Please keep it up and give those of us with speech impediments hope.
AND my daughter Pam in Tokyo just loves
Anderson Cooper and watches him as much as she
can ! CNN is her way of staying in touch with
her home country. And I think Molly is nice !
Anderson & Monica, Thanks for the great interview.I've been watching Anderson ever since he's been on CNN,he is such a good reporter,he seems so into his reports and the people he interviews, Anderson keep up the great work! I love the pic of you and your mom she must be so proud
The stammering, the giggling, and his absolute unwillingness to discuss his personal life -- well, except for his brother's suicide, his dental habits, and what he ate for lunch. Cooper would be so much more at ease if he'd just come out.
I can't believe he believes he is a geek, I don't think so, I would like to sit down with this good looking man and learn something important from him. Poor Molly I hope he has a sitter for him while he is traveling, I have a Welsh Corgi who is also a people dog and likes to hang out with me where ever room I'm at including the shower and toilet. So Good for you Molly for being loyal to Andy!
Who's the hot chick with the toolbelt? That's hot.
Anderson's a very guarded person and it will be a cold day in hell before he talks about his private life, private meaning who he dates or lives with. As far as him regretting crying during Katrina, I don't think he was saying there was something "wrong" about showing genuine emotion, but rather that he would've preferred to stay in control and just report as he normally does.
soooooo hot!!!!!
he's hot!!!!!
Welcome to the gun show. I have liked AC since he was on Channel One. He is very unique and incredibly sincere. I really admire his commitment to New Orleans and the post Karina society.
Great job, Monica. I still miss reading you in the Herald.
What difference does it make if he's gay or not.
He is still a person, and he's very successful
he should keep his personal life, its his business. All you negative people need to get a
life and mind yo business..
Cooper is a good reporter, much respected. As far as his personal life it's his business, but
having said that I don't think it would matter if
he were gay. If he is gay and is afraid it would effect his career then I really feel sorry for him
having to feel like he has to keep being gay hid. The other reason could be he is straight and just does not want whoever he becomes involved with robbed of their private life. It might also be hard for him to form strong emotional attachments because of the fact he lost
his father at such a young age, and then his brother a few years later. Sort of like ok if I
really start to have strong feelings for this person how long before they are gone from my life.
Enjoy the article about Mr. Cooper, OK, find him attractive and intelligent, surprise he has dyslexic, ok mild form. Love to talk with him and be a friend, he a worldly man, if hes interested in a honest friend to just hang out, hike, camp he would be my choice to hang out with. Give him my number 303-880-7589.
Anderson Cooper is a very good reporter and I find it appalling that sommeone should criticise him for showing some emotion in the Katrina report . He is only human and some of the things he reports on is devastation worldwide .
As far as his personal life , it is none of our business . Get a life folks .
Keep up the great work Anderson .
Thanks
JUST A GREAT PERSON. HIS SHOW IS GREAT
I may be 75 but l0:00 pm news has never been that compelling....gay or straight....don't care Cooper....you are the best! With those big blues you must be honest or the whole world will see the difference.
I think he is terrific I also watch CNN because of him.I am 81 yrs. young & I try to watch him at 10:oo p.m.but can't always stay awake, I truly wish he were my son. He has sexy blue eyes, & I love him
I don't know if it is because Anderson is becoming more secretive, but in this interview he comes off as being extremely detached and cold.
Observer says we want to know. Who is WE? Why is it any of our business. A person can be gay without having to shout it from the roof tops. Straight or Gay Anderson Cooper is the best reporter on TV. I am just sorry he appears so sad. Does he ever really laugh out loud? EM
NEAR PERFECT!!!!
