Tell us which is better: Take Fido on your trip or kennel him?

There's one thing we like nearly as much as celebrities here at Who's News: dogs. I'm the proud owner of a very cute cockapoo named Cassie, and Kathy  is counting down the days until she can get a Corgi of her own. As much as we love pups, though, traveling with them can be tough. USA WEEKEND has an article with five tips for road tripping with your dog, but we wondered what readers thought. So you tell us: What's better, taking Fido along for the vacation or kenneling him? Vote in the poll below and let us know in the comments what you think.

Why would you not even mention hiring a pet sitter as an alternative to kenneling? It's a more practical choice for the pet who remains in the comfort of their own home. A professional pet sitter will give them exercise, feeding at their regular scheduled times and lots of TLC.

All companion animals should have an identifying microchip implanted by the vet, low-cost and minimally invasive (just like an injection).

I'm shocked that wasn't the #1 suggestion in the article.

If it's not feasible for you to take your pet along with you, then hire a Professional Pet Sitter to visit and take care of your pet in their home, keeping your pet on their normal routine and schedule. This reduces your pets stress, they get to sleep and lounge where they are most comfortable, and they are much happier when you return home. Boarding works for some dogs, but the majority of dogs would rather stay in the comfort of their own homes.

Leave Fido at home! A dog is a dog, Park him at the door, We love dogs but they belong outside.

I have read the comments above, I think they are a little scared, I know I was too, however I have opened a Business called Doggiepampers.com not just to accommodate the pets, I wanted pet owners to feel as comfortable when going on long trip with their pets. I feel Fido should go on the trip but he should have pampers on the trip to make less stop (which helps pet owner get to their destination sooner and your hosts will thank you for the pampers as well remember all pets when stressed will have an accident or two).
If any one is interested in buying pampers for you pet you can go to doggiepamers.com or call 915-269-2008 and place your orders.

We have two bulldogs and we get a dog sitter to stay at our house when we travel. That's better than either of the choices suggested in your article.

My husband and I used to take our ShiTzu and a Llasa Apso with us in our motor-home however, some of our relatives didn't appreciate them so they sometimes had to be left inside our RV. This was not good. Leaving them in a Kennel was a bad Idea as they came down with Kennel Cough. The best one and is not cheap! Leave them at home and hire a professional Dog Walker. They are much happier! The Vet will usually recommend someone. She also takes them to the groomer when they need a hair trim and bath.

My husband and I always take our lab with us when we visit my parents in Florida. Luckily, he's good in the car and enjoys a change of scenery. It's fairly easy to find pet friendly hotels along the way. He's happier with us and it makes our trip more fun!
