'Harry Potter', Emmys on week's agenda
Posted by Lorrie LynchIt's a mid-summer Monday and on my mind today I have:
• Entourage. It's back (on HBO) and it's good, though I'm not wild about the Gary Cole character; would rather see more Debi Mazar.
• Johnny Depp. I saw Public Enemies Saturday. Liked the movie, loved Johnny. It's still No. 4 at the box office. Bruno was No. 1.
• Rescue Me. My piece on Denis Leary ran in the magazine a couple of weeks ago but today I interview Larenz Tate,
who plays Black Shawn on the FX drama. It's been a
wild season to date so I'm interested in what Tate has to say about it.
• Harry Potter. The sixth movie, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, opens Wednesday so I sent intern Steve Thompson, who has read the books and seen all the previous movies, to an early screening today. Come back this afternoon for his report.
• The Emmys: Nominations for the PrimeTime Emmy Awards will be announced Thursday. As I suggested after Neil Patrick Harris' successful night of hosting the Tony Awards, CBS is planning to use him to host the Emmys. And let's hope for fresh faces — anybody from the cast of Friday Night Lights for example — among the usual Tina Fey, Hugh Laurie, Steve Carell, etc.
