Comic-Con: A showcase for fall and winter video games
When it comes to selling video games, there's no better place than Comic-Con. Some of the most eagerly anticipated games for the fall and winter will be among those set up for demo at one end of the convention hall next week. There’s starpower in some games, such as Jack Black voicing the heavy-metal hero of Brutal Legend (that’s him at left). Click read more for Brian Truitt's list of what to try out at the con next week.

Cheerleading with Wii and a man named Tony G.
When I was in junior high school I wanted to be a cheerleader in the worst way. I was the new kid in school and I tried out for the squad in 7th and 8th grade without success. Still, I didn't give up the dream. I tried again in high school, in 9th grade and 10th. Again, no dice. In junior year, I figured out it wasn't gonna happen and gave up trying. If only I'd known Tony G.
Tony G. is Tony Gonzales, cheer choreographer behind all the Bring It On movies. We had him try out the All Star Cheer Squad game for Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS, both out now, and he tells us it's actually fun cheering via an avatar. (Maybe this is the game for me.) Click on read more below for our interview with Tony on both real and Nintendo cheering, and what each takes, as well as a trailer for the game.

Tony Hawk talks charities, gaming and fruitcake
Tony Hawk may have retired from competitive skateboarding in 1999, but he never really left. Instead, the 40-year-old has built an action sports empire, complete with a production company, a clothing line, books, video games, charities and even a skateboarding tour. It’s a wonder how he does it all. As our Reyhaneh Fathieh recently discovered, Hawk multitasks much the same way as he multi-spins in the air. A father of four, Hawk gave us a phone interview while playing papa to his 6-month-old daughter, Kadence. Asked about the noises in the background, an embarrassed Hawk says, “I thought she would take a nap before I made this phone call, but she has chosen not to. She’s watching Yo Gabba Gabba.” Click read more below for Hawk’s take on his newest charity venture, upcoming video game and — of all things — fruitcake, and for a peek at his popular Guitar Hero World Tour commercial with Alex Rodriguez, Kobe Bryant and Michael Phelps.

The best video games of 2008

meanwhile, seem to get better and better. In fact, with all the economic crises we're in, video game sales are actually up if you can believe it. If you're still looking for something to get your favorite gamer for the holidays, then click read more below and check out senior editor Craigh Barboza's top 10 video games of 2008, in no particular order.
